The distressed pachyderm stumbled into the pit the night before. Residents from the town nearby discovered the animal the next morning … alerted by its trumpeting calls. The elephant had collapsed from exhaustion while trying to climb out of the pit. The townspeople brought a backhoe to help it out. With the help of some heavy machinery and a little creativity, the elephant was freed and went on its way.
